If you are a horse girl like me, you want Christmas to be special for your gentle giants too. This season I’ve been feeling a little sorry for myself that my boys are so far away (okay, 30 minutes isn’t THAT far, but it feels like it most days!) and that I wouldn’t be able to just pop over and spend time with them like I had dreamt about when Paddy was a mile away. I have long envisioned Christmas with my ‘ponies!’
My husband said he would go to their barn on Christmas Eve {TOMORROW!} and I got so excited. I said, “I have to bring them a Christmas gift!!” I know, the REST of y’all think I’m just crazy [who isn’t!!'] but again, the horse lovers club gets it. SO, I googled as quick as I could to see if we had ingredients on hand or if I would have to purchase any, and we had everything we needed! This was a relief because have you been in to the grocery store today or any year right before Christmas?!
Here is what you’ll need:
Ingredients:
1 carrot
1 apple
1 cup molasses or honey
2.5 Cups of Oats
2-3 Tbsp of vegetable oil (I actually forgot this ingredient!)
And the directions are super simple:
Preheat the oven to 325-degrees [I also did this wrong, I baked mine at 350! Geez, Ashley!!] Grate the carrot and apple, mix together all ingredients, place large spoonfuls on a baking sheet [I lined mine with parchment paper] and then bake for 30-40 minutes [I baked for 30, probably good since my temp was hotter!] Cool for a few hours in the refrigerator and then give to your horses for a yummy, yummy treat!
(I have zero clue if my horses will like these FYI. And I got the recipe from KV Supply’s website. Hopefully they’ll enjoy them, they smell delicious and yummy enough that I may be tempted to take a bite, haha).
